If music be the food of love – Chrisette Michele

The best book I ever read was Twelfth Night but William Shakespeare.  Watched the movies too and It did help in explaining a bit of the book I hadn’t understood at first, but re-reading it then made everything clear.

Duke Orsino:
If music be the food of love, play on;
Give me excess of it, that, surfeiting,
The appetite may sicken, and so die.
That strain again! it had a dying fall:
O, it came o’er my ear like the sweet sound,
That breathes upon a bank of violets,
Stealing and giving odour! Enough; no more:
‘Tis not so sweet now as it was before.
O spirit of love! how quick and fresh art thou,
That, notwithstanding thy capacity
Receiveth as the sea, nought enters there,
Of what validity and pitch soe’er,
But falls into abatement and low price,
Even in a minute: so full of shapes is fancy
That it alone is high fantastical.

It’s like sitting down to a Joe Budden Mixtape (make that one of the classic Mood Muzik Mixtapes) or a Tupac Shakur album – then being plunged into the boring, meaningless, self loathing and unrespectable world of 50 Cent of Soulja Boy.  Or say you it’s a mariah Carey album and the next thing it’s on another one of these so called R&B artists of this day.

! Enough; no more:
‘Tis not so sweet now as it was before.

I quote arguably the most influential philosopher ever – Plato

“Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything.”

I fail to find where Lollipop, I get money, Soulja Boy and them other new world artists fit – imagination – thats too shallow to be credited as imaginatioin.  It’s more like throw me in the studio booth and i’ll spit a few words, market it well and if I am popular anyway these fans will buy any garbage just to have a “50 Cent album”.

The next best thing

The next best thing

Heard of a lady by the name Chrisette Michele? Her album “I am” was the best album for 2007 in my opinion.  Now she is working on Epiphany – due for release May 5 – and this is a call out – please buy.  It will be worth it.  Have heard “Blame It On Me”, “What You Do” and “Epiphany” and from the sounds of it -this is another classic album in the making.  Might just pip Joe Budden’s Padded Room for my favourite album for 2009 so far.

MAY 5 – Watch out for Chrisette Michele – hopefully they do not change the release date – the wait has been long enough already, and it’s fabulous see a truly talented artist making it – and winning a few award in the process. Forget Alicia Keys, Keyshia Cole, Ciara – Chrisette is the one to watch out for.  On that note – I must say Keyshia Cole’s latest album was a bit disappointing.

Back to Chrisette – Lets send this top of Billboard. I am definately getting mine.

till next time – lets appreciate good music.
